Child & Adolescent Development This Child and Adolescent Development course encourages students to use current research to think critically about developmental theories and practices. SMARTBoard Training This course is intended to teach educators or business professionals how to use the SMART Board interactive whiteboard. SMART Board is designed to engage students and deliver unique presentations. The course will allow participants will explore SMART Board software and learn how to create interactive lessons or presentations for the classroom and business world. Understanding Developmental Disorders Developmental disorders are characterized as mental or physical impairments which begin before the age of 22 and last throughout a persons’ lifetime. These impairments are called developmental disorders because they are most often identified in children who are around 3 years old, a critical time in child development. Developmental disorders are severe chronic conditions due to mental and/or physical impairments. Problems with language, mobility, learning, and self-care are all associated with developmental disorders. This course will teach current and future Direct Support Professionals about developmental disorders so they can better support clients, patients, and residents. This course is designed for entry-level Direct Support Professionals. Strategies for Successful Teaching for Clients with Developmental Disorders Due to new legislation, litigation, advocacy and funding over the past few decades, the numbers of school-age children with developmental disabilities who are residing in residential institutions has been drastically reduced. The manner in which we educate students with disabilities has progressed dramatically, so that now services that are more appropriate for students with developmental disabilities are provided in public schools.
